Learn More About The Golf Club Components
From: Golf-Online-TipsWhen playing a round of golf you likely see your clubs as one item, without thinking about the different golf club components that make up a golf club. Knowing about the different golf club components and making the right choices when buying your golf clubs can make a big difference in your game.
Each part of the club serves a different function, and impacts your game in a different way. There are three main parts of a golf club; the grip, the shaft and the head. Here are some tips about the various golf club components and how you can use them to improve your game.
The Grip
The grip of the golf club is the part that you hold when taking a shot. It is important because it is where you feel each shot from. The rules state that the grip has to be round without obvious lumps, bumps or hollows.
Just about all grips are made of leather or rubber with small ridges or grooves, and come in a variety of diameters depending upon how big your hands are. The best grip for your needs is really an individual choice, you will know immediately when you have a club in your hands, if it feels right or not.
The Shaft
The shaft of the club is an important part of the golf club components as it ties the grip to the head, and likewise must be round like the grip. Most contemporary shafts are made of steel or graphite, with graphite the more expensive and lighter choice.
Another option to take into consideration is the shaft length; get that wrong and you will not be able to swing the club correctly. The most important factor of a club shaft is the stiffness or flex. The more powerful your swing the stiffer you want the shaft to be. If you have a weaker swing then you want some bend and flex in the shaft to help you generate the power you need.
The Head
The head of the golf club is where you impact the ball, and so it is exceedingly important. This is the area of the club where you will notice the biggest difference in appearance. This difference is typically separated into the following categories - drivers, woods, fairway woods, irons, wedges and putters.
Woods have the largest heads and the least loft you will certainly notice the difference in size between a driver and a 5 wood. Irons are designed for a wide range of shots from long fairway irons to wedges which are used around the greens and putters designed for accuracy on the greens.
A quick note on putters; there is an enormous variety of putters to choose - from the simple blade putter to putters that can stand up on there own. This is one club that you will have to experiment with to find one that you feel comfortable with.
Once you understand that golf clubs are made of up of these golf club components, then you will be in a better position to select the right type of golf club to suit your game and to suit your shot.
