I have recently discovered a few of myself that always work towards a good golf swing:

1) keep the hands passive; grip loose

my real question is: should you feel your left side is firing or the right side? I am a right hander, and whenever i feel the right side of my body is firing on the down swing, i always resulted in a big slice. i just need some confirmation here.

Here are a couple of things that would cause this: 1. you could be taking the club too far inside on the back swing, which causes most players to swing outside of the plane line on the down swing from the top of your swing. the way to correct it is to put a tee 2-3 inches in front and down 2-3inches from where the ball lies. Do not hit the tee so your club face will start to travel on the path it is supposed to. Remember that all great strikers of the ball hit the inside part of the ball. 2. if you do not think your hips are firing correctly, that is probably because you are not moving your hips laterally to start your down swing. Wherever your target line is make sure that when you get to the top, the first transition downwards is your hips moving down the target line. Then just make sure when following through, you will need your forearms to rotate over each other at what we golfers call 9 o’clock, which is about where the clubs hits the target line half through your follow through; if that makes sense.
As far as the grip, there only three fingers that really grip the club; if your right handed, it is your left hand- pinky –middle finger.

your doing an over the top movement, I play a draw, when I need to cut/slice the ball I do an over the top movement, you need to feel like you right shoulder is rotating under, at the same time your lfet is rotating, rotate your shoulders without a club, see how your right side rotates toward the ball, at the same time your left side rotates, when you slice you move your right shoulder forward over the top which causes a slice.

my keys: grip it loose, and make a swing that feels close to my body. Notice on t.v. how close the golfer"s right elbow comes to his body on the downswing. thinking too many thoughts while trying to hit can:t help. that"s one hacker"s opinion.

    Hi,
I never like to think of any side controlling the swing as it is a shoulder turn that I make, unless I am chipping.

Here is my tip: This is for warm ups or at the practice range.
If you are using a Driver or mid-iron, address the ball with your normal stance then stand with the golf club
out stretched horizontally in front of you.
Now imagine that you are going to swing the club and beat a rug hanging off a washing line in front of you.
Take the backswing and feel the torque or stretching in your legs through your lower torso to your shoulders. Now initiate your swing by unleashing that torque and turning the shoulders, the legs do not start the swing and nor does the shoulders it is a combination of both, the arms follow they do not lead.

Practice this and think of the shoulders turning or your chest leading the swing and the rug would be the equivalent of the ball.
This practice will give you the correct muscle memory for the golf swing and will add yards on to your drives.

    Happy Golfing,

I’ve had that happen too. The cure for me was to stop "firing" and smooth things out. The harder I try to move through impact, the less control I have over my timing. I either hold on too long because I’ve got a death grip on the club and leave the face open, or start closing the face way too soon and hit a big topped hook. My swing is probably too handsy so I have a hard time keeping them passive, but I’ve heard that before so it must work for some people.
