Your Putting Stroke Can Make Or Break Your Round
from: Golf-Online-TipsWhen your putting game is on, you're on. But when you're off - well, it seems even a complete novice has more of a chance to get the ball in the hole than you do.
What is happening with your putting? You'd swear you have the same stance, the same putter, the same stroke as you did yesterday when every putt went in. Is putting simply a game of luck? The simple answer is: Not a chance. It may seem that there's no real key to putting successfully, especially when you consider that putting isn't an exact science.
If you're having a poor game due to putting problems, it all can be summed up in one simple word - tension.
The more you get rid of tension in your muscles during your putting stroke, the more accurate your shots will be. You make the game hard for yourself when you stiffen up your muscles.
The basis of a good putting game, as with all other shots, is to neither be tense nor relaxed; you need to find a happy medium. Fluid movement allows for a more perfect and accurate putting stroke, but if you're trying to brace yourself to keep your balance, your putts will not go where you want them to.
When you're putting well, your movement is free and your confidence is high. But the moment you miss an easy putt, you become uneasy and brace yourself to try more carefully. The more you brace yourself, the worse the tension in your body becomes and as a result, your putting suffers.
You can change putters, change your stance, and mimic every pro player you've ever watched but it all comes down to getting rid of tension.
Tension kills good shots, whether it is putting or any other golf shot. When you set your muscles in a rigid fashion, you lose the freedom necessary for a successful putting motion.
Now you may make several shots in a row, but the time will come, that no matter what you try, nothing seems to work. As an extra bonus, as you use this method of getting rid of tension and putt more effectively, your confidence will increase resulting in fewer putting strokes per round.
